Quote # 1

page 185
"The annual debut at the Centro Espanol was an even for the daughters of the best families, which in that small city mean mostly middle-class girls whose fathers were professionals. doctors, lawyers, businessmen."

This quote has to do with the book because it is saying that the people who are in this town that have their families represented by there daughters. They are usually not that rich but not exactly what you would call poor. The daughters probably were spoiled and they were probably only child.

This quote has to do with me because I grew up with a sister and she was the one who got everything. To me she was the prize child she was everything that a parent could wish for. I was well the wild child. And my father was gone a lot of my child hood, he was on leave with his navy ship, and I was not the one representing our family my sister was.

Question #1
What is the Centro Espanol?

Quote # 2

page 203
"At the end of the performance, the colored girls came off the stage, singing and dancing, and beckoning the mostly female audience to join them."

This has to do with the book because there is a lot of femininity in this book. And just adding this into it was making it have to with it more. In this book there is basically only femininity. it has a big part on life.

It has to do with me because well I am a female and I enjoy dancing and singing too. But this quote is very stereotypical saying that all girls do is dance and sing. For an example my sister wants to be an engineer and she does not like to sing or dance much. But she still does it for fun.

Question #1
What does beckoning mean?

Quote#1: I agree with your thought along with thw quote, not everybody get what they want or to have. It's hard to not be the one representing the family.Like not all the girls get big movie quinceanera Most of them have a small one if they are not rich or average.

Question#1:I think the centro espanol is an center where people learn spanish and the culture.

Quote#2:I agree with your thought about this quote, because the quote shows that the quinceanera process are very important to the latin country. It for young teens becoming into an young aldut. They usually care for the girls more than the boys. Boys don't have quinceanera.
Question#2:( Gabby you, don't have the question for your 2nd one)

Quote 1- I like your quote because it talks about the different types of girls out there, such as rich and poor and what jobs and things makes them either rich or poor. I like your personal connection because it is exactly what I think the quote is saying.

Question 1- It's a club dedicated to the promotion of Spanish and Dominican cultures.

Quote 2- I agree with what you said having to do with this quote. Yes all girls are much more feminine than guys but not all girls do just dancing and singing and feminine things. Although in those cultures it tends to be more like that.

Question 2- It means to make a signal, maybe by nodding your head or such.

Quote 1~ I like how this quote talks about the different money issues involved with the parties. There are a wide range of girls who celebrate their quince anos. There is also a large scale of their parents income.

Question 1~ It think its a center for people of Hispanic background to be with people from their culture. It could be a place where they come together and live by their culture in the U.S.

Quote 2~ I like this quote because it goes directly with quinceaneras. These ceremonies embrace femininity to the highest extent.

Question 2~ It means to signal a person in some way. Often, to invite them to come talk. For example, waving at a person would be considered beckoning to them.
